DEO, God

The wonderful, but daunting task of doing all of our thinking, acting and relating in
the conscious awareness that we are in God’s presence.

OBSERVATION
It is altogether impossible to discuss the implications of living Coram Deo without at
least considering several of God’s attributes. Psalm 139 is arguably the leading
passage in Scripture on these attributes so it will serve as our launching pad being
explained by what the rest of what Scripture has to say.

GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY - Psalm 139:13-16
God’s sovereignty speaks of His absolute authority and rule over His creation.
God upholds and sustains all things by His power, and determines the end they are
to serve. He owns all things in heaven and earth, and all things are subservient to
and dependent on Him.
Deuteronomy 10:14.1 Chronicles 29:11-12.Isaiah 45:5-6

Now why would it be necessary to review the Sovereignty of God in regards to Coram
Deo? The Sovereignty of God necessitates accountability. Accountability for each
and every decision you make. A gross misunderstanding of God’s sovereignty leads
many to a fatalistic mentality falling back on the notion that God’s sovereignty has
already determined the outcome so they take little regard for their day to day
moment by moment decisions. The Sovereignty of God when understood correctly
makes one absolutely accountable to God.

GOD’S OMNIPRESENCE - Psalm 139:7-10
God’s presence is so pervasive that the heavens and earth cannot contain it.
Therefore, it is impossible for anyone to escape it:
Jeremiah 23:23-24.1 Kings 8:27.Hebrews. 4:13

Now why would it be necessary to review the Omnipresence of God in regards to
Coram Deo? The Omnipresence of God necessitates openness in our accountability.
The Sovereignty of God when understood correctly makes one absolutely open
before God.

GOD’S OMNISCIENCE - Psalm 139:1-6
The omniscience of God is sometimes referred to as the knowledge of God. God’s
knowledge is His apprehension of truth and can be described as one eternal, all-
comprehensive, undivided act of insight. God in an entirely unique way knows Himself
and all things possible and actual in one eternal and simple act.
John 21:17.1 Samuel 2:3.Job 21:22.Isaiah 40:13-14.1 John 3:20b.Psalm 147:5

Now why would it be necessary to review the Omniscience of God in regards to
Coram Deo? The Omniscience of God necessitates truthfulness. The Omniscience of
God when understood correctly makes one absolutely truthful before God.

Discussing Coram Deo is impossible without discussing at least God’s Sovereignty,
Omnipresence, and Omniscience and many other of His attributes.

Living Coram Deo requires a vigorous accountability; a vigorous accountability
necessitates a vulnerable openness, a vulnerable openness demands unadulterated
truthfulness. These qualities in our lives are formed by a solid understanding of God
who is over everything, in every place knowing everything.

WHO IS THIS GOD, AND WHY MUST WE CONSIDER LIFE BEFORE HIS
FACE?

The answer in Psalm 139 is that He is the God who made and controls everything
(and I am 100% accountable to Him), He dwells in every place and space (so then I
must be open before Him), and He is the God who knows everything (therefore I must
be completely truthful with Him).
